Biography

Born in Sunamganj in 1936, Feroze Ahmed came to Britain to study before moving into the restaurant trade. In 1958 he opened the Taj Mahal in Stokes Croft, widely remembered as Bristol's first Indian restaurant. He went on to establish several influential restaurants in the city, including the Kohinoor, the Kismot, the Maharaja, and The Raj on King Street, helping create the public face of Bangladeshi life in Bristol through food.
